Phuket

Phuket is located in southern part of Thailand and it is famous for its glorious sights and beaches. Located on the Andaman Sea, the beautiful beaches have to be seen to be believed. Accommodation

First things first, and that would be a place to stay. There are plenty of 3 and 4 star hotels/resorts in Phuket. The rooms found in these hotels are relatively clean and come with basic amenities such as cable television, air conditioning and swimming pools. The costs of these hotels are very reasonable and it will not be difficult to find a room in the 35 to 50 dollar range per night. The best thing to do is to reserve in advance either online or through a travel agent. There are cheaper rooms available for under 30 dollars, however the most you can expect is an air conditioning for that kind of price. Budget hotels (under20 dollars) in Phuket are on the whole rare.

Beaches

There are a lot of activities available in Phuket but the biggest attraction is predictably the beaches. Beaches are the single biggest reason why millions of people come here each year. Out of all the beaches in Phuket, Laem Sing is considered to be the most beautiful beach. It is a private beach and the only way a person can access it is by two small roads. There are restaurants at this beach serving decent food.

Patong beach is the place to go if you are into Thailand's famous nightlife. This place is not for families, as it is teaming with girly bars etc. The restaurants here have a reputation of being low quality and high priced. This is not exactly the place to go to if you are traveling on a budget.

Kata and Karon beaches are also considered to be some of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand. This is where majority of Scandinavian tourists flock to. These beaches are very clean and there are plenty of good restaurants available here. Hotels tend to be on the expensive side. There is also a fairly active nightlife at these 2 beaches.

If you are a back packer on a strict budget then Chalong bay is the place for you. This is one of the few beaches that have not been taken over by tourists from Europe. It is mostly frequented by locals and it is not too difficult to find very cheap accommodations here.

Things to see and do

Moving away from beaches, the area in and around Phuket has plenty of things to see and hear. Predictably, ocean related activities are very poplar here. If you are into scuba diving then a visit to the Similan Islands is a must. This place is ranked among the top 10 scuba diving places in the world! If fishing is your thing, then it is possible to rent a boat and crew and go do some big game fishing in Phuket. Another big attraction of Phuket is its countless spas and massage parlors. If you are traveling with your family, then make sure the place is only offering massage service, and not other types of "services."

For those of you traveling to Phuket the first time it is important to remember to be cautious. Even though crime is relatively rare in these parts it does happen. If you stay away from drugs and do not drink and drive, then the likely hood of getting hurt or ending up behind bars is slim.
